Progress and Promise on the SDGs: Analysis for India

Sarthi Acharya‚ Balwant Singh Mehta (Eds.)

About the Book

This work offers a definitive and comprehensive analysis of the socio-economic challenges facing India and the global community in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Edited by two distinguished scholars, it provides an in-depth evaluation of India’s progress since adopting the 2030 Agenda in 2015 and aligning these goals with the ambitious Viksit Bharat@2047 vision to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.

Focusing on key SDGs—including poverty alleviation, health, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, employment, and economic growth—the book examines regional and inter-state disparities while offering rich longitudinal and spatial insights. It highlights achievements, identifies persistent challenges, and proposes actionable solutions to accelerate progress.

This book is presented as a tribute to Professor Alakh N Sharma, a distinguished scholar and renowned labour economist. The volume is designed for policymakers, researchers and stakeholders seeking evidence-based strategies to inform effective policies. By aligning India’s development initiatives with the global SDG Framework, it underscores the importance of inclusive and sustainable approaches to nation-building.
