Glimpses of Water Management in Rural India

Description

A unique collection of case studies on rural water management in India, this book (in 5 chapters) highlights the significance of rural water management.  First chapter is based on secondary sources as it elaborates the contextual and conceptual aspects of water resource management. Remaining four chapters are case studies based on primary sources. In second and third chapter, six sample districts (approximately 40 villages) from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been taken to assess the water management at community level. Fourth chapter presents a macro level management of surface and ground water at Mirzapur district. Twenty per cent sample size has been taken to cover the whole area of selected sample district. For instance, if a block consists of 100 villages then primary survey has been conducted in more than 20 villages on random basis (every sixth village). Fifth chapter is a case study pertaining to ground water management of Allahabad District taking six sample villages. These studies have been conducted in different years for different reasons have been brought together to shape the book into the current form.

Anupama Dubey is currently Assistant Professor at Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), Hyderabad. She is a post graduate from Allahabad University and holds MPhil and PhD in the area of Water Conservation and Management from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. She has experience of more than ten years in teaching, research and training.  She has been a faculty of Geography at the Delhi University and has also worked as Senior Research Analyst at National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT, Delhi) on Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (Project of Ministry of Human Resource Development). She has  a wide experience of heading and contributing to various research and consultancy projects funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), University Grant Commission (UGC), Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Developmen, (NABARD), International Developmental Research Centre (IDRC, Canada), World Health Organisation, and University of North Carolina (USA). Her papers have been published and presented in national and international journals/conferences. She has chaired national and international conferences, and has organised national level conferences and training workshops. She is presently working on Post-Doctoral Fellowship funded by ICSSR. Her areas of specialisation include: water management and governance, corporate governance, resource management, sustainable development, research methodology and developmental Studies.

 

R.K. Mishra, Senior Professor, Director and ONGC Subir Rana Chair Professor at IPE, Hyderabad, is a graduate of International Management Programme, SDA Bocconi, Milan, Italy and a Fellow of British Council and Commonwealth Secretariat. He has had research stints at London Business School and Maison Des Sciences De L’ Hommes, Paris. He has taught at the University of Bradford, United Kingdom and was a visiting Professor at Maison Des Sciences De L’Hommes, Paris; University of Technology Mara, Malaysia; Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He has handled assignments for various ministries of Government of India. He is on the board of several public companies and on the expert panel of the Performance Management Division to evaluate the performance of various ministries of the Government of India.
